Why M.D.S

Carpentry that lasts.

Carpentry is half the renovation. Joists, partition walls, door linings, skirting, architrave, staircases. Get those right and the rooms feel finished. I cut neat, hang square, and treat reclaimed and original timber with the care it deserves.

Most of my work comes from word of mouth. Lincoln is a small enough city that bad jobs follow you around, so I treat every property as if my reputation depends on it. Because it does.

Every quote is line-by-line and fixed. You see the cost of every stage and every material before I lift a tool. No sliding scope, no surprise variations.

What's included

How I do carpentry.

The detail, the materials, the sequencing. Six things that separate work that lasts from work that does not.

01 · Carpentry

First fix carpentry

Joists, noggins, stud walls, door linings, window boards. The structural carpentry that the rest of the build hangs off.

02 · Carpentry

Second fix and trim

Doors hung, locks set, skirting and architrave fitted. Tight returns, mitred ends, no gaps to fill with caulk.

03 · Carpentry

Floor joists and boards

Replacement joists in period properties, sistered repairs, board lifting and reinstatement. Levelling for new floors.

04 · Carpentry

Bespoke timber work

Built-in cupboards, shelving, alcove units, shaker panelling. Made on site or in the workshop, fitted properly.

05 · Carpentry

Staircases and balustrades

Repair and replacement. New treads, risers, balusters, handrails. Period-sympathetic where the property calls for it.

06 · Carpentry

Period property repair

Lath-and-plaster patching, original cornicing protection, careful matching of period mouldings.

Common questions

Carpentry, asked.

Can you match an existing skirting profile?
Often yes. I keep a stock of period profiles and I can have specific profiles cut to match an original pattern. Bring me a 30cm offcut and I will source or replicate.
Do you do fitted wardrobes and built-ins?
Yes. Alcove units, fitted wardrobes, shaker panelling, simple bookcases. Made to fit the room, painted ready or paint-ready depending on what you have arranged with your decorator.
Will you replace floor joists?
Yes, both full replacement and sistered repairs where the original is sound but sagging. Common in 1900-to-1930 Lincoln terraces.
How do you price carpentry work?
Day rate for small jobs, fixed price for anything over a couple of days. I quote line-by-line so you see materials, labour and any sub-trade time separately.
